Harry Potter Day

What a wonderful class of Hogwarts students we are.....and a few muggles too! Happy Harry Potter Day. Thank you for supporting our charity mufti day.

Natural Art

We used the shells that we collected from the beach to create natural art in the sandpit. The wonderful thing is that you can keep changing it as many times as you like.

Our trip to Phala Beach

Our new unit of learning is called ‘We live by the sea’. We have been learning about local geography and how our school is very close to the village of Phala. Last week we went on a trip to Phala Village, to map the village and discover the sorts of jobs that people can do there.

First we visited the new Horse Crab and squid nursery situated behind the fish market. This is a new project set up by the Phala Community Association. They collect the pregnant squid and crab from fishermen, and allow the babies to be born in special tanks. Then they release them into the sea when they are large enough to survive. This will help to replenish the stock of sea animals which is dropping due to overfishing, pollution and lack of habitat. We learned that baby animals like to live in the mangrove, but there is no mangrove left in Phala now.

After that we walked through the village, looking at the old houses and talking to the people who live there. They shared their memories of Phala in the past, and we were lucky enough to see some photos of Phala 40 years ago. There were no hotels and most of the houses were made of wood. Maptaphut was not there.

Next we walked down to the Phala Pier CafĂ© and after eating snack, we cleaned the beach.

We were proud to collect 13 huge black sacks of rubbish, but we felt sad about how much plastic and garbage we saw. We learned a lot about natural and man-made materials because we had to decide what to leave on the beach and what to throw away.

Pony ride

We have been learning about the Native American tribes who lived on the Plains. We found out that the Sioux and Lakota tribes loved horse...
